CANON CHARACTER INFORMATION

Character Name: Sinbad
Canon: Magi – specifically the prequel Sinbad no Bouken
Backstory: History
Personality: Sinbad seems to be the epitome of the wide-eyed adventurer – excitable and curious, he can’t very well leave well enough alone. Growing up as a poor son of a fisherman and a social pariah (a war veteran that turn total pacifist in a highly nationalistic, militarized society), and a sick mother to look after, he never had much of a chance to explore the world until his fateful encounter with Yunan. As he would state repeatedly – he views that he has to see everything there is in the world, no matter the risk - and of course, that the world will be guiding him on the right path to save it. And he’ll do it with a smile – if not while neck-deep in danger, but immediately afterwards, laughing over the dangers he faced as he seems to enjoy the adrenaline rush and the risk of the unknown. However, he doesn’t feel others should be subjected to the same risks he takes; constantly warning others against going into Dungeons as he feels it’s far too dangerous for most people.

He’s also a wannabe Casanova, constantly hitting on girls he find attractive. Generally though, Sinbad will stop flirting with people that show no interest in him, as he doesn’t want to be too pushy. While he might develop a crush on someone, he isn’t very serious and just seems to do it because he likes the attention – both giving and receiving. On the other hand, he likes to tease guys with light-hearted ribbing and good-nature mocking, but he almost never intends to be mean when he does it.

The major thing is Sinbad does what his heart tells him to do, regardless of the danger. He abandoned his homeland of Parthevia because he was disgusted with their ways, even though it meant he has to look out for Assassins for possibly the rest of his life, and almost destroying his chance at making an alliance with another kingdom because he felt it was wrong for its ruler to use his power for an unfair advantage just to ‘prove a point’. Long as he got an idea of what he wants to do, he will do it without hesitation and without a single thought of giving up or surrendering.

His sense of empathy is extremely strong, he sympathizes even with those who tried to kill him – saving Ja’far when the young boy was falling despite the latter’s crude behavior and previous attempts to assassinate him, and in Magi, he even approached a known enemy who acted like he was crying for help despite the obvious danger. Sinbad enjoys being around people in general, the first to a party, first to lend a hand if someone needs one, and quick to offer friendship to others, and when he learned to write – he found he really loved creating stories, knowing that he’s reaching out to people he would otherwise never meet.

Sinbad only seem to hold hatred for people who would manipulate and use others as tools, and those that would cause suffering just because they can. If they showed no signs of being manipulated themselves or regret for their actions, he will never forgive them and will do anything to stop them. However, he does himself have a manipulative streak, charming others and taking advantages of situations to benefit him – he does hate that aspect of himself, but will in the future deem it a ‘necessary evil’ for his goal – though he has not reach that point in his life and would very much hate his adult self.

The best way to describe his intelligence level is ‘Clever, but foolish’. Sinbad often comes up with brilliant ways of using his environment to his advantage, such as using a fallen shield to ride a geyser to get to a high place, but there’s times when he clearly doesn’t think things through or don’t consider consequences, such as when he tried to open a stall in Reim without checking to see if they needed a license first and ended up getting horribly ripped off, then there’s the time Ja’far had to literally ground him to keep him from flying into a new city in his Djinn equipped form because he never thought about how someone might mistake him for a monster in that shape all because he didn’t want to climb mountains. Generally the less he wants to do something or the more bored he is, the more harebrained his schemes to avoid doing the thing becomes, while if he just sits down and thought ahead, he’s actually quite capable of brilliant tactics such as laying out traps for a giant sea monster to help Hina kill it, and it might've worked if a storm hadn't come in.

AU INFORMATION

AU Character Name: Sinbad Tisoni
AU Backstory: Sinbad was born to a Lebanese-American woman from Ohio named Esra, and an Iranian immigrant named Badr who became a naturalized citizen after seeking political asylum in the US. They got to a comfortable middle-class existence due to his father's Union job at the docks until Sinbad turned 12, when his father's company went on strike over working conditions. Communications broke down, and a worker struck a security guard with a brick, causing a street brawl to break out, and police were summoned to break it up, Badr was among the group that got arrested, though he protested his innocence, claiming he did not attack anyone and was trying to drag a wounded coworker out of the fight. However, due a mixture of plea deals from other dockworkers in the strike and an apparent rush to get the entire group processed, he was tried and sentenced to a cumulative sentence of eight years in prison, much to his family's outrage. Esra was forced to go from working part time to full time to make ends meet, and spent what free time she has divided between caring for her son and researching how to get Badr's conviction overturned. Sinbad meanwhile tries to be a good kid, lying about his age to take part-time jobs, and trying to learn how to cook, as a consequence his grades start to slip, never enough to fail, but enough to earn ire from stricter teachers, though he always made time to practice on his mother's beat up gibson, playing music was their way of bonding in the few hours they got with each other per day.

Things came to a head once his mother finally managed to arrange a meeting with the DA, Sinbad came with her, promising to be good. They were told point blank that it was just not worth the trouble or the money to reopen the case, and that they're lucky nothing came up that would cause Badr's citizen status to be revoked. While his mother answered with iced politeness, Sinbad exploded with anger, and had to be dragged out before he lashed out. After seeing the disdain and quick dismal of their concerns, he had no faith in that anything could be done legally.

AU Personality Deviation: First off, due to the different circumstances of what happened to his family, he doesn't hold a strong antipathy towards military personnel or the military, but he is much more open about his anti-authoritative streak, only listening to those who earned his trust.

Secondly, while his mother works full time, both his parents are alive so while he tries to act mature to impress, he's not as independent as his canon version at the same age, and channels his adventurous streak into writing, especially song lyrics, with his ambition initally turning towards the music industry, because he initally doesn't want to engage with politics.

Species: Human
Class: Infiltrator
Arcana: Emperor
Persona: Starting Persona: Vepar A colorful cross between a mermaid and a butterfly supported by a sea dragon. Representing self-expression and energy, Vepar is weak to dark and Psi attacks but is strong against Zio, using weak, multi-target light attacks like Makouha and lightning attacks such as Mazio and Zio, this Persona is about being flashy while striking.

Ultimate Persona: Baal
Unlike the Persona version, his version of Baal is more dragon than demon, of a blue, gold, and black palette. His elemental strength is Zio, and is weak to Psi attacks, having a mix of single-target but extremely powerful lightning attacks and a variety of physical attacks, trading the ranged light attacks for the more in-one's face physical attacks. It represents both his wrath at the injustice of the world and his desire to right wrongs like a hero.

Social Link Persona: Oberon
Odin
Barong
Assets: Minor: moral support, also fluent in Farsi as well as English

Weapon Type: swords – specifically curved blades like Talwars and Shamshirs
Vehicle Type: N/A

Codename: Tempest

Form of Rebellion: What happens if you combine a vintage heavy metal guitarist and a barbary pirate: royal purple sirwals (baggy pants), white knee-length leather vest with gold and silver chains lacing the front but doesn't close entirely, showing off a bare chest with a coin-fringed blue sash tied in the front. To accessorize, he wears gold-yellow gloves with white wrappings that stop half-way up his arm, gold hoop earrings, silver collar with a crescent moon charm, and his Mask is a half-mask in the shape of a light metallic blue dragon's head, with lightning-shaped horns curving back over his head.
