[ooc] Memories
General warnings for bad things happening to children, Magi is not a happy canon and Ohtaka really shows how trauma can shape and warp an entire person's worldview, but there are some happier/goofier memories. Here's an example of what memories can be seen, with more specific ones written out. CW: Death, Torture, Child abuse, mentions of child sexual abuse
*When he was 5, he found an unconscious man who told him stories while he recovered, but turns out the man was a spy who held him hostage. His father killed the man, but was taken away for harboring a spy. During the period, the entire village hated his family and tried to encourage Darius to kill him.
*At age 14, he befriended a strange man called Yunan, and was discovered as a draft-dodger by a boy his age who was a military commander because so many men had died in the war. He entered the dungeon with Drakon, and the two were the only survivors and after a vicious fight, Sinbad won and claimed the Djinn Baal, while coming to some understanding with Drakon - seeing him not as a heartless man, but as much a victim of circumstances.
However, when he returned home, he discovered three months had passed, and his mother was dying, he barely made it in time to hear her final words, but she was far gone that she never realized that he was at her side.
*He soon turns 15 and fled north, where he met the giants of Imuchakk, particularly Hinahoho, and entered the dungeon Valefor to save him. He won the Djinn by trickery, but the three assassins sent to kill him were transformed into a monster by dark magic, and despite everything, he saved them, learning their loyalty, especially that of Ja'far. While he was in the dungeon, he met Drakon again, and their understanding became the start of friendship.
*While in Artemyra, he was stupid and tried to mansplain to the Queen that he was not like the other men, and got thrown down a canyon for his trouble along with two of his friends, and minus everything in their possession including their clothes. So they spent a few months roughing it in the nude.
*When he returned, he discovered someone was manipulating his company to get it deep in debt, and was long story tricked into betting his freedom and lost, becoming a slave for Uum Madaura, a cruel woman who exclusively raised children to be obedient, skilled slaves (even for the purposes of sex), and had wanted Sinbad because of his looks and unique position as a dungeon conqueror. She proceeds to spend weeks psychologically and physically torturing him until he was in a near catatonic state before treating him with kindness. It worked, for a while - he forgot everything he was suppose to be doing, and just wanted to make 'Mother' Happy. But even when brainwashed, his kindness still showed, banning whippings and physical punishment, and caring for the sick when Madaura would just throw the sick kids away.
*Eventually he's snapped out of it due to Masrur (a fellow slave's) pride, seeing another slave his age sold as a sexual plaything, and memories of his real mother, he ends up gathering the children and rather brutally explain their "Mother"'s true nature, and how as slaves they will never be considered human, and started a rebellion. Despite his best plans, some of the children ended up killed and after realizing what would happen if the others were caught afterwards, he has a breakdown, begging for Ja'far to kill him for being a horrible human being. But Ja'far refuses, and while berating him for his actions, he spells out quite bluntly that if Sinbad wants to make a country and change the world, he HAS to expect to do terrible things and get his hands dirty.

Memory 1. CW: Parental Death, Ostracization, Child Endangerment
And you wanted to see them all when you get big and strong like Papa. Momma didn't seem to like him at first, something about being unsafe and the fighting that Papa hates and the other villagers beat him up for not liking to fight. You know he's stronger than the rest of them combined even with a missing leg, but you can't understand why he won't fight.
But Darius was nice so Momma calmed down. There was a clatter at the door, and the sound of several pots smashed, you cried despite yourself, the soldiers in their bright armor were loud and yelling at Momma about something and started to point at Darius.
As you turned to see why the soldiers were so angry about the nice man, he grabbed you by the collar of your tunic, and pushed them out of the way. The tunic dug into your neck and it hurts, and you tried to ask Darius to let you go, that you can run but he suddenly looked at you with evil eyes, and yelled at you to shut up.
The villagers started to appear to look at you, then a knife appeared in Darius' big hand - hands that seem bigger than your head, and you felt the cold, sharp metal being pushed into your mouth. You stopped crying, scared of cutting yourself on the blade. Scared of what the man would do if you don't listen.
Momma had followed, she went on her knees, crying - you almost never saw her cry - begging the villagers to help you, to stop Darius. They called her expatriate, they called you a worthless child of a coward, they said it'd be better if Darius would kill you.
Then daddy appeared, you thought he was out fishing, but you were glad to see him. He had a sword in hand, the villagers were saying bad things about him.
But it went quiet as Papa somehow closed the distance between the two of you, Darius let go of your shirt as Papa's sword went into his belly. The knife fell from your mouth and bounced on the ground once before lying still.
The soldiers caught up to the four of your, said something about Darius being a bad man who was spying. You couldn't believe it, a man who told you nice stories, who was nice to you, why would he had done the thing he just did. You asked him, he just laughs before he went still.
The soldiers kept going, said your family had to die for harboring spies, or Papa can fight. Momma clung to you tightly as Papa stepped towards them, the villagers were crying for your blood.
Then Papa stripped, showing those ugly scars he didn't like to talk about, and how his one leg ended above the knee. He said that is what fighting gave them, that is what they're asking people to suffer, and that he is only willing to fight to protect you. Then he was taken away.
That was the last time you saw him.
Memory 2. Meeting a Magi
You had to act fast, that's what the waves tell you. You called out to the men, and you leaped - following the way their waves acted - your foot connecting with the face of one as you used his nose as a springboard, to avoid the sword of another, to deliver a kick to the chin of a third before pushing back. A knife flew your way, but the waves warned you and you were able rotate your foot, allowing yourself to catch it by the hilt to turn it back around as you land, punching a forth in the gut before rolling between his legs, every wave they gave off was a warning to their intent that let you practically dance around them.
It took only a few minutes to clear them all, the girls seemed confused as to how you beaten them - are you the only ones who understand what the waves mean? You offered yourself as a bodyguard, but they were heading overseas, and as much as it would make you more money, you couldn't leave Mother behind, not in her condition.
There was a commotion in the wagon, and a strange man popped out of a barrel, startling everyone. He was thin, glad in green, with a long tow-colored braid and if you had to guess, he was in his late twenties, but those blue eyes seem to old an ancient sorrow. You're not even sure why you got that impression, but you did.
It really was none of your business, but you decided to help him, it seemed he had ducked into a barrel to avoid sunlight and got transported by mistake. He called himself Yunan, and was a traveler, though a strangely naive one as it seemed he has never seen a child before and was easily bullied by the kids in your village when you brought him home to stay for the night.
He had asked you a strange question: "What would you do if you had the power of a king?", it seemed like an odd hypothetical question to ask the son of a fisherman, but there was something in his voice, something that promises it wasn't just empty question, depending on how you answered it.
