CANON INFORMATION
CHARACTER NAME: Sinbad
CANON: Magi: Sinbad no Bouken
HISTORY: https://magi.fandom.com/wiki/Sinbad#History
STRENGTHS: Open-Hearted: Sinbad’s ability to read the mood and understand people is very remarkable. He managed to reach out and befriend even people who had tried to kill him because he understands the underlying struggles they are going through. And he did genuinely have good intentions in trying to make a more just world, where people didn’t have to suffer.
Cunning: While he makes some fundamentally *stupid* decisions in his life, Sinbad proves he’s a very cunning and intelligent young man. While he hates studying, he’s aware he needs to put his nose to the grindstone in order to get ahead. If presented with choice a or choice b when it comes to achieving a goal – he will often find a third, more optimal path that wasn’t presented to him, for example when trying to raise the money so Rashid would sponsor him, he realized he wouldn’t make the amount by conventional means in time so he became a performer, using his stories and skills to earn money far faster than he would otherwise. He also shows a shrewd mind for politics and commerce, exploiting weaknesses and take advantages.
Determined: He has one goal in mind: a country that can change the world. The only time he has ever faltered from this path was due to being put extreme psychological and implied psychical torture and suffering from destruction of his first country due to Celendine mind-controlling him into declaring war on Parthevia. but once given a reminder of what he was after – he recovers and gets right back on it.
FLAWS: Arrogant: His most obvious flaw, he knows he’s hot shit, he knows he’s clever, he knows Fate seems to have something in mind for him. This often means he walks into a situation already thinking he has the upper hand, not being appropriately cautious or preparing for when things go south. His biggest set backs in canon has been because he was certain he was winning. On that note, Sinbad has a nasty habit of thinking he knows best, when really, he doesn’t.
Lazy: Because he was dirt-poor and scrabbling to support himself and his mother when he was young, he developed quite a lazy streak. While he will do the work to achieve his goals, and seems fine when he can engage with people, he will slack off with physical labor to drink, and shows a complete and utter inability to focus on completing tedious tasks.
Manipulative: On the flip of his strong empathetic abilities, Sinbad can and has used his ability to read people to use them to his own ends – most notably his older version manipulating Kougyoku’s crush on him in order to turn her into an unwitting spy. His teenaged self is not quite as callus as to do that, but he’s clearly quite used to charming his way out of trouble, immediately resorting to flirting, flattery, and appeals to other people’s egos to get what he wants.

AU INFORMATION
AU CHARACTER NAME: Sinbad ibn Badr al-Ayad
AGE: 16
GRADE: 10th
AU BACKSTORY: Sinbad’s early life was in the middle-east, where his parents Esra and Badr lived in a remote farming village to avoid the eye of the religious authorities – his father was a well-respected member of the community, helping out and somehow has a knack for making sure the crops never fail and the livestock never had complications during birth, while his mother Esra quietly educated the women, and even at a young age, Sinbad seem to have an uncanny knack for predicting storms. This all changed when Sinbad was about seven, when strange men burst into their quiet community, taking the young boy hostage – demanding that Badr showed himself – his true self.
His father felt he had no choice but to comply, arriving in the square while dropping his glamour – revealing that he was a Djinn. While the men were distracted by his sudden change, Badr slew the one holding his son, and chased the rest out into the wilderness, where a freak storm suddenly darkens the sky.
When the storm cleared, people searched for Badr, and only found blood, the star of Solomon scorched into the earth, and tire tracks. No longer feeling safe, Esra sold or traded everything too big to carry, taking the money and her family to a large city in the United States to stay with a brother of hers, thinking the big city would keep Sinbad safe from the hunters that went after her husband. His experience with all kinds of people from all walks of life in their little immigrant neighborhood fostered in him a life-long curiosity of people, and hearing their reason for leaving their homelands planted the seeds of desire for peace within him.
During the time, Esra explained to Sinbad about the nature of Djinns and cautions him to learn how to control his abilities to protect himself. But his curiosity, and growing signs of his less than human nature – such as his black hair turning violet, or the skin around injuries temporarily turning blue - became much harder to disguise, and now he wanted. Knowing her son will eventually go out to try to find out what happened to his father, she chose to encourage him to enroll in a magic school when he does set out, so he would be in safe and capable hands while he's searching, presenting him a sword that Badr had given to her as a wedding gift.
AU PERSONALITY DEVIATION: Because he wasn’t raised literally-hand-to-mouth poor, and didn’t have to support his mother from a very young age, he generally acts more like a kid.
Also since he doesn’t know what happened to his father, while he still has heavy ambitions on making the world better, he’s more focused on his personal issues currently.
RACE: half-Djinn
SECRET SOCIETY: none
POWERS: Sinbad has inherited several aspects of a Djinn’s power from his father, and has the potential under the right circumstances end up as a full and proper Djinn.
Rukh Manipulation: or “Reading the waves” as he calls it, is a seer-like ability to sense the energy of the earth, have the odds go his way, and the people around him to predict their movements, allowing him an almost spider-sense in terms of avoiding blows and finding weak points to exploit. For example, he can innately sense the timing of when a geyser will go off despite never being in the area before or he wakes up right before an assassin attacks him. On occasion, he can gain insight on “path” he’s walking on – being able to clearly see the next step of what he needs to do to get to the next step of his goal, but in turn until he achieves it, his abnormally good luck reverses – if something can go wrong, it will go wrong in a very spectacular fashion as though he’s being punished for peeking. He has yet to connect his bouts of bad luck is caused by his brief moments of future sight.
This ability is heavily muted in the Outlands as the ability is tied to the Djinns being spirits of the earth. He can sense people, but not how the environment acts.
He has always been naturally agile, but as he grew older, he discovered he can glide for short distances and move over fragile ground as if he’s light as a feather, allowing to perform inhuman feats of acrobatic combat.
Over time, he’ll accumulate powers from other Djinns, allowing him to transform into various forms to wield powerful magic.
FOR REAPPING:
He slipped off upon hearing rumors of a Djinn reappearing, and being subjected to tests to prove his worth, he unlocked a new ability he has yet to fully master.
Baal equip: With sword in hand, he can blast powerful bolts of lightning, capable of blasting holes through rocks.
When he eventually masters it, he takes on a humanoid-Dragon form with a large, powerful tail, thick scales covering most of his body save for his chest and face, and allows him to fly. Right now, all he can summon is his tail.
HOUSING: not in Aube.
